Ranking system

The World Ranking is a list of eligible teams in order of performance. There is one list for national teams and one for club teams (indoor and beach separately). In both categories there is one list for men and for women respectively.

Starting from 1 February 2020, the Rankings are published and updated on the first Tuesday every month. The actual Ranking lists are available on the Qatch website (www.qatch.org).

Teams gain ranking points by playing at Qatch tournaments. The higher the multiplying factor of the tournament, the more points are attained.

A team consists of 5 players. During a competition calendar a team has the opportunity to add 1 more player to the team, however it is not allowed to exceed the toal number of 5 players at any time. 4 players can participate in a tournament and a team has one opportunity to substitute a player between matches. In case of an injury a team has the opportunity to substitute the injured player during the match.

For the players two transfers between teams are allowed throughout the respective competition calendar. Transfers are one-way only, returning to the original team is not allowed in the same competition calendar.

Ranking for Club Teams

Ranking points are awarded for the first 10 teams based on the final position and depending on the number of participating teams and the number of nations in a club tournament.

In a club tournament the first 10 teams receive points as follows:

               1st place                                            10

               2nd place                                           9

               3rd place                                           8

               4th place                                           7

               5th place                                           6

               6th place                                           5

               7th place                                           4

               8th place                                           3

               9th place                                           2

               10th place                                         1

Multiplying factors based on the number of the participating nations:

               1 participating nation                   1,00

               2 participating nations                  1,25

               3 participating nations                  1,50

               4 participating nations                  1,75

               5+ participating nations               2,00

Multiplying factors based on the number of the participating teams:

               10 teams                                          1,00

               11 teams                                          1,10

               12 teams                                          1,20

               13 teams                                          1,30

               25 teams                                          2,50

               etc.

Teams are ranked according to the points gained during club tournaments. Team with the highest calculated points will be ranked number one and so on.

If two or more teams have identical points, then

  • the team which has better result in the actual competition calendar will be ranked higher;
  • the team which played less tournaments will be ranked higher.

If teams have identical points, have the same results in the actual competition calendar and have played identical number of tournaments, then these teams are ranked equal.

Teams who have been disqualified in a tournament, will not get any ranking point for that event and will not be added to the ranking. All other teams that have finished the tournament but did not end up amongst the top 10 teams will be listed on ranking with 0 point.

Best team from each continent regardless their ranking position will get invitation to the World Qatch Beach/Indoor Games.

Ranking for National Teams

If a player has two or more sporting nationalities (passports), then the player must declare which country she or he prefers to play for. Players may change sporting nationality, even after having already represented a different national team, if they have not played in any national team of another country in the 1 year preceding their first appearance in the national team in an official match.

In the World Championship the number of points given to the teams is based on the number of participating teams, for example:

If there is a World Championship with 16 teams, the points are given as follows:

               1st place                                            16

               2nd place                                           15

               3rd place                                           14

               4th place                                           13

               5th place                                           12

               10th place                                         7

               16th place                                         1

Multiplying factors based on the final position:

               1st place                                            2,00

               2nd place                                           1,75

               3rd place                                           1,50

               4th – 8th places                                1,25

               9th– places                                       1,00

National teams are ranked according to the points gained during World Championships. National teams with the highest calculated points will be ranked number one and so on.

If two or more national teams have identical points, then these national teams are ranked equal.

National teams who have been disqualified in a World Championship, will not get any ranking point for that World Championship.

Individual Ranking

Although Qatch is a team sport thus the individual ranking does not qualify for any event but in this way we can keep track of the individual performances.

A player gets 1/3 or 1/4 of the total points gained by the team of the respective player at a tournament.
